American Whirlpool Drier ‘Dead’

Whirlpool Mod 3RLEC8646KQ2 Ser MR320 1580. Try to avoid semi commercial stuff but looking at this one as a favour.
Reported fault machine dead. Checked power is getting to machine and door switch is working ok. No lights on the panel at all. Is there anything obvious that these driers suffer from?

I don’t work on these either, but the ones I have seen have all had a wiring diagram inside the console housing.

Yep the older ones ive worked on had one too, but not this one.
At the minute im doing what all good engineers do………an educated guess!

Check the heater thermostats, these are a major cause.

I believe one of the one shot devices causes the machine to go dead.

I seem to recollect than some of these machines have an in-line fuse at the top in amongst the control panel area. Easy enough to find as I recall.

The heater is often isolatted by a switch on the jockey pulley arm that stops the heat if the motor fails or if the belt snaps.

If the motor is dead then it will appear as if the heater is dead too.

Some of these have a fuse inside the console housing by memory.

One shot cut out white cylindrical affair on side of blower duct ( back off to see )also look for an in line fuse on the right hand side of loom at the top ,I recently had a jammed motor start switch which was causing the fuse to blow if you Need a motor also order a fan not sure if it’s applicable to your model but there is a door microswitch striker that breaks it a funny kind of tensile bracket that wraps around the microswitch but the finger snaps

Just had a look for the service sheets but don’t have them anymore so having to work from memory here.
“Dead machine” I’d be looking for a blown inline fuse, dodgy door switch and checking the belt switch.
As far as I can remember of the wiring set up, the white cylinder is a thermal fuse, it links across to the thermostats on the heater and then through the belt switch. (could be the belt switch first in line, really can’t remember).
If the belt snaps it cuts power to heater and motor (dead machine), same would happen if the switch is broken or faulty I would imagine. The thermal fuse and thermostats should only affect the heater circuit.

Always been the thermal fuse on the ones ive repaired for fault description “dead”.
