HI IVE BEEN TO ONE OF THESE TODAY WHIRLPOOL 3LSC8255EQ1 MACHINE WILL WASH AND DRAIN OK BUT WILL NOT SPIN AMAZINGLEY THE COUPLING HAS NOT BROKEN I HAVE REMOVED THE PUMP & MOTOR AND CAN TURN THE GEARBOX SHAFT WERE THE COUPLING FIT TO ONE WAY OK BUT WHEN I TURN IT THE OTHER IT JAMS UP IF I GIVE IT A BIT MORE IT WILL TURN BUT VERY STIFF AND STILL THE DRUM WONT TURN HAS ANYBODY CAME ACROSS THIS BEFORE? AND DO I HAVE TO REPLACE THE GEARBOX COMPLETE?AND WHAT ARE THEY LIKE TO DO?

You need to look further…

The drum has a drive block, clutch and a drive shaft, all above the gear box and one of these (inc gearbox) is where the fault lies….

The drum comes off easy enough from the top.

Hi Mark,
Did you smell a burning oil smell when you took the pump off etc?
It is quite common that the gearbox goes but i replace the clutch as well just in case . I preferebly open the lid and remove the conditioner dispenser and then the cap, underneath is a 11mm nut, reverse thread undo and take off the agitator. Take the shell off and lie the machine on its back. Take the pump off via the clips then the motor holders, you will see 3 13mm bolts which hold the gearbox in place the clutch comes out with the gearbox. The clutch comes as a seperate part to the gearbox and some circlips are needed from the old one. just remember the way you dismantle the old one and reverse the process.

HI IF I ORDER THE GEARBOX 481903949118 DOES THIS COME WITH THE CLUTCH COZ IF IT DOESN’T ITS GOING TO BE VERY EXPENSIVE I MAY NEED TO HAVE ANOTHER LOOK

No Mark, the Clutch (481969018152) is seperate at around £40
