ParticipantHi there
First post on this very helpful forum.
I have an Ariston LSI 61 dishwasher that developed a fault last night. I set it running on an intensive cycle, and after about 10 mins had the feeling that something wasn’t right. I opened up the front and discovered a lot less water than I would normally expect in the sump, and the heating element on (I know it was on because water dripping back down from the dishes was ‘popping’ as it hit the hot element). I closed the front up, and then the earth leakage breaker tripped down on my consumer board in my garage. After much faffing with the locks on my garage door (it’s electrically operated – annoying in these circumstances!) I got in and re-set the breaker. Pressed the power button on the diswasher with the door open, and the same thing happened again with the breaker. Repeated this step a couple more times, then got bored and washed up and manually emptied the sump of water with a cup and bowl.
From reading this forum, I think I have worked out the following, but could someone please let me know if I’m heading in the right direction:
a) the heating element should have been on, as the dishwasher was on the second pre-wash cycle – hopefully nothing to worry about there.
b) the water level float could get stuck in the full position, thus explaining why there was hardly any water in the sump.
What I’m not sure about is why/how:
a) the earth leakage circuit tripped? Could water have got into the pump, even though it had not overflowed and the filters were clean??
b) where the water level float is, and whether I can have a go at ‘freeing’ it up myself? This would seem to be the most straightforward explanation, and hopefully the easiest fix (assuming all my assumptions are correct)
Any thoughts gratefully appreciated!
John

Water level is controlled by a sealed pressure switch, the float you have read about is a polystyrene disc in the base that floats up if the machine leaks into the base, it does not control the fill levels.
First thing to do is to check all of the base components with meggar or multimeter to ascertain the cause of the earth leakage.
