ParticipantHave a faulty 2 1/2 year old RS21DCNS and since finding this forum yesterday have been taking in the wealth of great advice.
Over the weekend the fridge woke us up with what now appears to be the noisy iced up fan. I turned it off at the mains and left it overnight. The temps were still reading as set. Turned it back on Sat afternoon and left it as we were out for the night.
Came back to find the noisy fan and temps up to 19 (Freezer) & 2 (Fridge, though actual was warmer than this. Turned off at mains again
Yesterday I took the Evaporator cover off in the fridge compartment. This was fully defrosted though there were signs it had iced up (damaged, wet polystyrene). I didn’t have a meter so didn’t check the sensors/heater.
Plugged it back in and although it is making the right noises the freezer is staying at 19 while the fridge hasn’t got below 12.
I did the diagnostic on the front panel. The display flashed 8 -8 once then returned to the temps.
From previous posts the freezer usually continues to operate??? Has it got it’s own evaporator???
Apologies for the waffle,

Its the evaporator cover in the fridge that needs replacing.

Thanks for the reply Mac. Does this explain why both temps are so high after defrosting?

Hi
If you have the centre bar on the fridge when tested then you will have a defrost problem normally due to the heater going open circuit which will need to be changed, this comes complete with a new sensor and thermal fuse.
the parts are available from the online UKW shop or myself.

A quick update…
It was still at room temp both sides when I got home last night. Diagnostic test is actually 1 flash of “-88 88” which I guess is no error. Metered the fuse, heater and sensor and they all seemed OK No ice. Freezer evaporator panel was free of ice.
Cold it still be the evaporator unit???
Think this is going to get expensive!!!March 5, 2008 at 10:48 pm #244312pleach

Final update.
Had the local Samsung agents in today. The compressor had failed and no refrigerant was left in the system, along with having to replace the evaporator cover.
Unsurprisingly they have classified it as unrepairable.
Guess Samsung will be totally uninterested as it is 6 months out of warranty…[/code]March 6, 2008 at 10:17 am #244313admin

Hi
Its unlikely that the system is empty of refrigerant after 30 months as a leak would show up within the first few weeks.
It is possible that there is a restriction or even a compressor failure but both these are repairable.

Hi Pleach
If you get a report from the engineer saying that it is BER then Samsung will do something even if warranty is expired. They will need the report and your proof of purchase. They may offer an exchange or a depreciated refund. Give them a call and have all the information to hand. 0845 726 7864

Hi
If The appliance is deemd to be BER then Samsung may well give a part exchange value towards a new samsung appliance.

errr yes they will Mac, did i say they will fix it? No its BER so it can’t be fixed – they will look at depreciated refund based on expected life of an appliance regardless of warranty or not.
Pleach give them a call they will help you out.

2 posts in and shouting the odds?
mac has a point
the responsibilty lies with the retailer, not the manufacturer
thats who you need to contact, not samsung…. you might ge a little luckier if you try it that way
