ParticipantA friend of mine has an oven cleaning business, he cleaned an oven on Thursday, then received a call back on it today. The customer said that the grill on the top oven would not turn on.
The details of the oven are a bit sketchy, however it is a Cannon and the knob that operates the top oven also operates the grill, ie turned clockwise puts the oven on, turned anti clockwise turns the grill on. The knob will turn to switch the oven on but no longer turns the opposite direction to operate the grill.
My friend is sure that his cleaning hasn’t caused this problem, but the customer is giving hi the old ‘well it was working fine before you cleaned it’ b*ll*cks :rolls:
Basically he has asked my advice, whether he could have broken it or whether it was probably already broken, also what it would likely need to repair.
Sadly I don’t work on gas appliances so I really have no idea, so can any of the bretheren on here offer any advice?

If the knob turned before it would turn now. Customer is pulling a fast one

Hi
My advise to your friend is to carry out a quick operational check before carrying out the cleaning. Saves bover later. By cleaning the fault described wouldn’t normally be caused by cleaning.

Last person in syndrome im afraid .Im not a gas engineer but the wife runs an oven cleaning firm and has experienced similar problems, customers on the odd occasions have rung up with faults caused by the cleaning :rolls: days or sometimes months later. On one occasion during the pre check on an old dears gas cooker she noticed the flame in the oven remained on low ,she reported it to the customer and noted it on the invoice which the customer signed, several weeks later she had a call from the old dear claiming the oven had not cooked properley since the clean and it had been working perfectly before 😯 .I have in the past had to change elements on ovens f.o.c for her and had a problem once with a gas tap on a hob seizing solid a week after it had been cleaned which we footed the bill for as a gesture of goodwill .its not just us appliance repairers that get blamed for faults beyond our control 😆
