I used a Self Cutting Waste Outlet Kit when I first installed my washing machine and I would like to replace it as it is difficult to clean (clogs and slows down the washing machine due to increased drainage times) and reassemble.

I would welcome any suggestions, including an easier to maintain version of the type I have. Thanks 🙂

im imagining you have a horizontal waste with the “cut in” part located vertically. if this is the case, it shouldnt be too much work to put a standpipe in that will have increase flow. but a picture of your current setup would be really useful to make a proper and correct suggestion

Your guess is correct but the pipe is under the sink and there’s not a lot of height to play with. I have taken some photos but I’m not sure how to add them on this forum.

But it’s not the pipework itself that is causing the problem with flow but the trap – it gets clogged very quickly as I live in an extremely hard water area and the limescale combined with the normal fibres and hairs means a regular clean out is needed. I was wondering if there was an easy to dismantle waste trap available or if I’m stuck dismantling & reassembling this one every few months. Thanks for your help.

You will need to upload them to an image hosting site such as Photobucket, Putfile, Imageshack or similar then paste the url of the image into your post.

    Seemed to work 🙂

    1) is an up-close of the trap.

    2) is a slightly panned out shot:

And finally an up-close of the trap itself…

Any suggestions for a new trap type would be appreciated as this one must be fully dismantled, cleaned, taped and reassembled regularly to remain fully functional. Thanks again for all your help, hopefully these pictures are clear enough.

Those DIY things should never be used for washing machines, they may just about work for a dishwasher but cause endless trouble on washers as you have found.

Either a call to a reputable plumber to do the job correctly or remove the filter part of that contraption and make sure your hose is routed well above the lowest level of the sink.

The self plumbing taps are just as bad. :rolls:
