Anybody had scrap nicked?

Well have you? We’ve had the odd scrap washer go walkies in the past but it was no big deal but last year we got kids moving scrap m/cs about after works hours & fearing some little angel getting hurt & there unconcerned parents suing us we started parking the old transit van up tight to the scrap & main wall & sticking some tall frezers at the end to stop the little b*ggers erm angels getting in & causing problems. This has been working fine for a while now as we get scrap collected when we have a sufficent amount,well the other day the bosse’s father in law borrowes the transit for the afternoon but didn’t park it back in the correct place so the following morning we discovered about 6 maybe 8 scrap washers or cookers missing but amazingly no refridgeration had been taken! All this in a small seaside town & down a back street with a private drive overlooked by other properties!!!”Theres gold in them there machines i tell ya”.

Yep had 5 machines pinched a couple of months ago together with about 40 scrap compressors. Now have to lock up or workshop yard during the day and all skips (40 yarders) have chains and padlocks on them. It still didnt stop 3 men carrying away a scrap fridge freezer during the night though. Why would you pinch a scrap f/f I wonder ?? :rolls:

Nope, but it is something I worry about.

Every scrot with a van sticks his head over our (8 foot high) back gate, and then walks in the shop to ask if he can have it.

I’m excepting it to start happening real soon :/

We had 20 machines taken from our yard last week.Every day we have to turn away the pikeys who seem to think that all scrap thats on the floor is theirs.Its about time the EA did something about it.Funny enough though they didnt take any of the 100 fridge freezers we had in the yard.

Well, with the value of scrap machines having gone up from 2p to 16p per kilo what do you expect? Trafford council is having to constantly replace stolen manhole covers costing us ratepayers thousands of pounds per year. The solution is to make the scrap dealers take proof of identity of all customers and details of the scrap.

Yes a friend of mine who runs a shop got some good clear pictures of Pikeys plus the van reg number, pinching his scrap M/CS, took them to show the police who were not interested 😥

I don’t remember telling you about that, Jim, but I suppose I must have done 😀 . The difference between then and now is that I was doing Currys a favour taking it; the Manager said so. That’s my story and I’m sticking to it!
