ParticipantAnother Lux EWM1000 board bites the dust due to interlock failure. Exploded component is 8 pin DIL package stuffed down between the selector sw and the heatsink so will be tricky to replace but I’d have a go if I knew what component it is. Think most of these boards are the same. If anyone has a board they can look at for me it would be a great help.
Ta,

It’s OK. I think I found it. Had a dud EWM2000 board and there are several ACS1025T on there. Only difference is this one ends in 6. So put ACS1026T into RS’ search box and got a result. Will update when have received and fitted.

I’ve not tried it but I’m told you can remove duff ICs using a small gas torch. You have a screwdriver under the IC, play the flame over all the pins on the other side then a quick lever with the screwdriver and it pops out. Might not work on double sides boards though.

Thanks Phidom. I’ve seen some stuff on you tube / instructables etc like that. I’ve got a few ideas of my own in mind too. Will update as and when. Only problem I can foresee is if there is additional invisible damage elsewhere on board. I reckon it’s a 50/50 chance and I ain’t got nuthin else to do right now.

Well finally got the job done after first ever c@ck up with part order by RS.
Turned out there were two other ACS1026’s on the other side of the board controlling other components but accompanied by exactly the same neighbouring resistors. This enabled me to work out precisely what was going on in terms of what leg was supposed to be connected to what track.
I discovered one or two secrets whilst labouring over a hot soldering iron which will surely come in useful when I come across this type of fault again.
Moved heatsink out of way, took top off selector switch to give better access and eventually mounted component on opposite side of board.
Setting up new business next week to take on EMW.
😆
Anyway it’s all back together and working again on a two to three week probation period before I order new door lock. (Have hung a Hotpoint one in for now till I’m sure machine is reliably fixed.)

I took some photos and I will probably share one or two of them sometime when I get my act together on how to do that. However, just right now I’m still smarting from the considerable fight I had to win on that one and I’m going to be a bit reluctant to share such hard-won secrets as I learned. Anyway, don’t want to put EMW out of business just yet, I’ll still be needing them from time to time. 😆

Mike.Hmm. Wonder if this will work?
Hmm. I can’t see them. Can anyone else? I’m using Auctiva which I use for e-bay.
Ah, OK, right click and select open in new tab! Now how do you get them to display directly in post?
BTW, I realised after doing this bodge (which is still working 😯 ) that I could have got the triac version of same device and soldered it to tabs but would still have had to re-establish burnt out links through board.May 17, 2010 at 8:20 pm #314263iadom

Right click and open is not an option in Internet Explorer for those images, what browser are you using?
They do not display for me either.
This is a link from imageshack that I posted a few days ago.
I have removed the image tags to show how it looks in the post editing window.http://img43.imageshack.us/img43/7549/pcbbekolabel3.jpg
And here it is with the image tags.

Here are your links with the image tags removed.http://www.auctiva.com/hostedimages/sho … =0&lgdin=1
http://www.auctiva.com/hostedimages/sho … =0&lgdin=1
Those are links to a complete web page, you need a direct link to the image.
If you click those links it will bring up your picture.
If you upload your pictures to imageshack, putfile or most other hosting sites you will be presented with several options, one of which is a direct link to the image itself.
Does that option exist in Auctiva?Jim.

Internet Explorer? How old fashioned! 😆 I’m using Google Chrome. 8)iadom wrote:Does that option exist in Auctiva?
I don’t know, really. Didn’t see any options just copied and pasted the url enclosed by img thingys.
I’ll have a play with them other hosts when I get another dead day with nothing better to do. Which probably won’t be long under this “government”. 🙁

Mike.Funny, I seem to think the ‘No Work’ threads have been ongoing for a couple of years or more, I wonder whos fault that is. 😛
