I had a phone call from Taylors asking me to do work for them, they are part of Bairstow Eves, a big group of estate agents around here.
The woman on the phone told me they take 8.7{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} for a fast payment fee so most contractors up their prices by 10{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} to offset the charge.
Got a contract sent to me, read through it and they do take 8.7{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} but not a word about fast payment. anyone delt with this outfit, if say do they pay up or were you forever chasing them for payment?

    Thanks.

HI I live in the next County to you. It does not matter who the Estate agent is they charge their client a rate that includes any repairs. What they should do is ask you for an estimate of repair, they ask there client, client says yes/no they get back to you and say yes/no.

I seem to remember hearing this is sharp practice for E/A’s to do, they get paid by the client and by you. I was doing work for an E/A in Northampton some years ago, they came to me and said much the same thing, I told them to go away, I am not paying any one to give me work, especialy when they get paid for it anyway.

I’m aware they take a slice but that is not a problem if they pay up on time. I don’t want to get into a situation where I have to chase them for my money or get messed around for payment.

In that case, let that be known to them and ask them to sign an agreement of your terms etc, including if you need help to remove any appliance that may be glued in, yes glued in, even screwed down, if any one could accompany you while you are there incase there is a query on damage or if they claim that items have been taken, so on and so forth.

What if you injure yourself whilst there, who is going to help you! its happened to me several times, so cover yourself at all times. They may moan and say know one can leave the office etc, tell them its part of the HSE at work agreement, and insist on it. I did and it is surprising how someone would agree to be there.

They would ask you to sign a contract, so you ask them to sign your terms of agreement as said above. In other words, “cover your backside”, you would be very surprised at how many guys out there in rented properties try it on.
