Can ANYONE tell me how to access the evaporator fan on this unit please?

What exactly is it that you are attempting?
To remove an evaporator from any fridge, i.e. get it out the unit will involve breaking into the gas system.

the model is a hoover HNU271AFFAL.
Yes, I know you have to open the gas circuit to remove the evaporator! What I am trying to find out is: how to access the the evaporator FAN on this model. As far as I can see this involves disconnecting the evap. Im sure however that this CANNOT POSSIBLY be the case & it is me who is being dim here & not the freezer designers? (hmmmm?) :rolls:The freezer is less than 18 months old (so out of warranty) but has a fault in the fan seizing every few months. when i defrost it everything is normal again until next time! (obviously due to ice build up. yes, I know, its not defrosting itself)
I had an engineer out about 6 months ago (under warranty) who said it was the PCB, & replaced that item. The fault returned after a few months tho.
Im not willing to pay out £100+ for another “repair ” that only lasts 6 months, so I want to have a look myself at the fan when it is seized & see if I can make some adjustment to its location or something.
Failing that I intend to go out & buy a conventional freezer that has no unreliable electronic control crap & fans to wear out!
A defrost every 2 years or so is a small price to pay for reliability!
my last conventional LEC lasted over 20 years without a single mishap! 🙁February 17, 2008 at 9:28 pm #243469helo_75

By “bin em” do you mean the whole freezer or just some part?
Although id love to “bin” the freezer, after shelling out nearly £400 less than 18 months ago, Im a bit reluctant to do that until Ive explored a few possibilities!DO you know how the fan can be accessed?
Surely SOMEONE knows????February 17, 2008 at 10:44 pm #243471kwatt

Hi MM,
What Helo is trying to tell you is that this isn’t a DIY job as the engineers find it a swine of a thing as well. Asides from which, if you start tampering with it you will invalidate the Hoover parts warranty that you have.
I am sorry but I don’t know how you get access to the fan on that model but, if it is a case of moving the evaporator then I’m with Helo, it’s not a DIY job at all.

Participantit actually invole pulling the evaporator out (very very sharp) and attatching some metal strips to the heater, and that then pushes down the drain
not a diy job, difficult to get to, hard to put back once its out, and rarely works correctly ever again
of course, it could just be a faulty defrost heater, but the same applies
not tryin to do it down, it just aint nice, and hoover should be able to fix it for you at a fixed price
give em a ring, ask em

thanks helo.
seems insane you have to remove the evap to get at the fan which is after all a moving part that would wear out!
I will have a go at hoover to see if they will fix it even tho the 1 years warranty is up due to the fact a mod should have been done!
If they would do it for less than £100 I would consider it but if not I may try & cut a hole in the top to access things!
Its a write off anyway so nothing to lose!Cheers!

Participantdont u see though, the fans nit your problem
its the fact that the ice builds up and obstructs the fan blade, thats allhoover will almost certainly repair it for less than a ton, so thats probably the best option
dont be cutting holes in it, ull definatly write it off
