ParticipantHi there!
Fairly self-explanatory but the orange light (signifying the heating element is on) is always lit whereas prior to the fault this would only light when the temperature gauge was NOT zero.
Fault discovered when i thought i was cooking my dinner at 170 degrees but actually the temperature was 270+ (used a food probe thermometer which i stuck through a small crack in door opening)
How should i go about diagnosing the fault please? I’m heading our now to by a multimeter 😉

Thanks Dave. Is there any way for me to test this using my new multimeter?

Also the missus is freaking out because of the browning at the rear (see image). I reckon its just burned oily/fatty residue that escaped from the oven chamber at the gaps where the oven light, element and thermostats enter it. Would very much appreciate your opinion though as I havn’t seen the backs of m(any) ovens!

no panic its normal. fibreglass cannot burn
as for the thermostat
its simply a switch that’s controlled by temperature. you can put your multimeter on it but all that will tell you is whether its on or off and not if it is responding to temperature
if you turn the temperature to off the oven should not heat. If you then set it to 50 degrees and it goes above that then it needs changingDave

Thanks for the quick reply Dave. Pity you guys don’t stock the part or would have ordered from here. Do you have a way I can donate?
