ParticipantI purchased the above from MFI six years ago and I have never defrosted it and there is lots of ice in the freezer. So much so that I’ve had to remove one of the drawers to enable me to actually close the door! I’ve looked at the instruction booklet and it says you have to insert a tube into a hole at the bottom of the freezer and undo a drain plug. Well, I was never given a tube, I can’t find this hole they’re talking about and there is definitely no visible drain plug.
Does anybody know what it’s on about? I don’t want to have to chuck it out because I can’t afford a new one – and it isn’t too bad really.
Your help will be much appreciated.
Thanks.

Why would you want to chuck it out if it just needs defrosting ? 😕
There is a drain pipe on this model but if you can’t find it just unplug it and leave it off for 24 hours or so, you’ll need to mop up the water as the ice melts though. The pipe is only a defrost aid to stop water going all over the floor but not an essential part of the process 😉

get lots of towels put them in the bottom of freezer place a bowl on them and towel round front of appliance, then switch the fridge freezer off(at plug ideally if not then 0 on thermostat control knob) for a good day……or till all ice is gone, note towels will get very very wet so keep ringing them out.
The tube was so you could drain water into a bowl. without it you will just get wet very wet hence towels.Defrosting ideally should be done every 6 months but most people do it every year. 😀

Hi guys,
Thanks ever so much for your replies. (I was only saying I’d throw the fridge out because I can’t fit any food in the freezer coz of the ice! I won’t if I can defrost it properly).Do you know why I haven’t got one of those drain plugs which is referred to in manual? Do they make some models without them?
I have another problem too. There’s a hole in the back of my fridge and it has this bit which collects water. There is also a lot of ice (sometimes water) on the bottom of the fridge. Do you know how I can sort this out? Do you think it’s related to my freezer problem and it will stop when it has been thoroughly defrosted?
Thank you!

I think the whole thing needs completely defrosting and the drain hole is also blocked in the fridge (refer to manual, it should expaain about that as well).
You may find the drain tube is there just hidden by ice ?

Hi again!
Thanks for the explanation. I’ve referred to the manual again and also looked at the fridge and I definitely don’t have a drain plug. Well, according to the picture in the manual I don’t. By the looks of it the drain plug is on the floor of freezer. The floor of my freezer doesn’t have any ice and is plastic. There is nothing that is removal to reveal a plug so I guess it’s somewhere different.I’m going to defrost on Saturday – after I’ve bought lots of towels to soak up the thawed ice!
Thanks again.
