There is an internal Indesit memo/tech bulletin about this problem.
The official cure for broken tabs is to drill a tiny hole in front of the lifter and insert a small, stainless steel screw.
If these are the smaller, Indesit type lifters then you are meant to insert the lifter and then raise the tab afterwards. The special tool that is supposed to be used for this job is totally useless, it is impossible to fit it into the hole of the lifter when it is in the drum.
I bend the tab at a slight angle so that it is twisted slightly, or use a broken WM rear restraint spring (1601660) with a hook formed on the end to pull the tab up.
Just to show you just how useless the special tool is to use look at these pictures. you can see from the angle that you need to hold the tool to insert it into the centre hole, that is is physically impossible when the lifter is actually in the drum.
