ParticipantHi
Here is a poser. Aquarius 6kg will not empty when it should in any of the applicable cycles: wash, spin etc.
Symptoms:
Machine will run through cycle up to point of empty and then stop
Displaying the following lights: Door locked, Wash, rinse & spin and final spin.
Machine does not empty, pump motor doesn’t run and cannot be heard to be runningAction thus far:
Gravity drained
Checked filter – clear
Renewed pump assembly – with genuine hotpoint spareNote; machine will run on spin cycles if there is no water in machine but pump doesn’t run.
Any suggestions as to what could be wrong would be gratefully received
Many thanks Rick

Hard to be specific without a model no but sounds board related assuming you’ve checked wiring to pump

Hi
Many thanks for your reply. WMA58P would that be the model number from the bar code? Thanks Rick

Model essential as Andy says, on some models the pump will not run if there is no water in the drum. Also the later pressure switches need to be reset if the machine has been tilted to repair etc.
If the original pump burnt out then it is very likely to have damaged the main circuit board.

You posted whilst I was typing. 🙂
This model is before the awful Indesit electronics so not usually a pressure switch fault.
Also the electronics on these are fairly reliable and don’t suffer from this fault very often. Does the old pump look burnt on the windings in any way?
Edit, checking the diagrams the pump is fed directly from the pcb, it does not go through the pressure switch, if the wiring from pump to pcb is intact the examine the components on the pcb, you may find a blown triac. 🙁

Hi
No the old pump looks fine and shows no sign of overheating. I did tilt the machine to replace the motor and check the filter. Could the pressure switch need resetting? If so please can you say where it can be found and what needs to be done to reset it?

I’d be looking closely at the board now

This machine does not have Indesit electronics in it so no reset needed. As already mentioned the pump is fed directly from the pcb.
You need to check the wiring from the pump to the pcb and the visibly inspect the components on the pcb.

Many thanks each and all for your help and advice. I will check the wiring and the board and thereafter the board for any signs. Difficult to test without removing?.. I suspect I will have to invest in a new board ……….. which sounds expensive 🙁
Take care Rick

Hi
Some additional considerations regarding my problem:
– The new motor could be faulty!!??
– although the machine partly cycles could the control module need reprogramming?
– I gather from my search for a new module cheapest £86.00 it would require programming once fitted. Is this a job for the expert?

Pump unlikely to be faulty, Google for EMW pcb repairs, send it to them to test/repair.

Many thanks for the contact.
Would the unit need to be programmed after repair and reinstallation in machine?

No, if EMW repair it then it will come back as it left with the original settings intact. I would advise a very careful check of the wiring cables from the pump to the pcb and also check the main wiring harness that runs from the motor to the pcb, it can chafe on the large concrete weight at the front of the machine and cause pcb problems.
