Went to a dead Ariston 1535UK washer and found blown tracks on the module (one of those long ones in a white case) where the mains comes in. Too bad to repair.

Ordered a new one – Part No. C00143471. Fitted it (after repairing the edge connector in the machine) and got strange results. Slow on/off flashing at start, no “multiple flash” initialisation flashes. Then it turns on the cold water valve and the drain pump both at once and continuous. And gives a group of 3 slow flashes. Won’t do anything else.

Need to know if this is a faulty module, or the wrong module, or the machine has a fault. Crunch time.

Note: the number on the old module (Magnetek) was 215007395.01

New module (Power-one) number is 215009298.00

    Help much appreciated.

Small processor – you have to take it off the old board and move it across if it’s the same size. If not, you need C00092767.

I will only get replacements from EMW as the new one is literally plug and play.

I’m a bit confused here – I have heard there is a version of this board “without eprom” (Espares lists it).
And EMW list a Mark One board (has ARISTON FE printed on it) and a Mark Three board (has FULL0028 printed on it)…

The old board is in the customers machine, so I will get it Monday.

    Thanks

there is a version of all of them now with no eprom

youll need a smart card to reprogramme it

but for now, ull need to fit an eprom, if the other board hasnt got a removable one in it

OK – I’m up to speed on this now, thanks.
Hopefully the old board has an eeprom.

How do we get hold of indesit smartcards and the special adapter that plugs into the module?? (for future reference)

BTW I came across this fascinating Indesit document – take a look at page 10 (robots building washing machines!) also page 7 (modules)

Re: Ariston 1535UK Washer Module Problem (C00143471)

That is terrifyingly cynical……. The open acknowledgement that the heater will goose (Hello, Martin!) everything and that it can all be laid off against an extended warranty amply demonstrates the level of care being shown by the Indesit Company.

It really ought to be either saved as an article in its own right in Advice and Help or stickied into the Washing Machine Advice forum.

What tickled me was that Bull***t on page 5.
1996, ‘ The worlds first fully electronic washing machine’ erm, I don’t think so.

Servis Quartz & Hotpoint Microtronic are just two fully electronically controlled machines from the 1970’s that I can think of, and I am guessing that there will be several others well before 1996.

And the author has been kind enough to leave his e-mail address.

piero.pracchi@wraphome.com I wonder if Pracchi is Italian for P**T :rolls:

How does one get a smart card and adapter?
    🙁

    Just to elaborate Jim’s point a little further….. 😉

Servis applied for a patent on 11th Jan 1975. And the patent was granted one year later (2nd Jan 1976) for a ‘Fully electronically controlled washing machine’ (patent number GB1529691).

Yet another fact to bore the pants off you I fully realise – but hey!- you”ll be better for knowing it in the next pub quiz maybe? :rolls:

Was it the ‘Selectronic’ that came before the Quartz?

Just to wrap this thread up – we got an EEprom direct from Merloni (quite fast and efficiant but expensive) and sorted the machine. Also de-soldered the old EEprom, which works fine.

Cheers for an interesting, if diverse, thread!

    Not quite finished yet ……
In a roundabout way I guess they are right but they don’t know it ……
In June 1970 I was working as a service engineer for Hotpoint, then known as British Domestic Appliances (BDA)
I was sent up to the old English Electric factory at Hyton, Liverpool on a 3 week training course on the Hotpoint 1600.
This was an electronically controlled machine and I still have the interim service manual and a couple of spares.

    Quote from the manual:
    “Module
The module consists of a number of transistors, diodes, resistors and capacitors, which provide a highly sensitive means of speed control. In effect, the module may be regarded as a speed controller, since its function is to determine the amount of current the thyristor is allowed to conduct”

It had been out awhile before I played with it and it was a pig.
Hotpoint decided only to sell these machines through a few outlets and Keddies in Southend (part of my area) seemed to corner the market.
Me and one other were trained up on these things and did nothing else all day but change modules, PMC’s and wiring looms.
I was given one as a wedding present from the other engineers in April 1972 made up out of spares off their vans; it lasted all of 18 months.
Not sure when it was patented but to my knowledge is was one of the first.

Couple of pages from the manual

As a postscript the front concrete balance weight was known affectionately as the AWLB (Arnold Weinstock Life Belt)

Re: Ariston 1535UK Washer Module Problem (C00143471)

1600 was not a ‘fully electronic’ machine, having a mechanical timer which along with the electronics used to fail for fun. The timer did have a PCB through the middle but the Hoover machines had this type of timer many years before. The biggest advance claimed for the 1600 was the 1100 rpm spin speed, faster than anything else on the market at the time by some distance.

TBH after they did all the mods including the larger 18 connection PCB and added the varistor to the PMC they did become a little more reliable. I actually used to like working on them, very easy to access all components etc.

We had a very large number of 1600/1830 machines in this area due to the massive Metro Vickers works in Trafford Park, the aforementioned E Electric plant in Liverpool and the Osram Factory here in Shaw, all GEC owned companies shifting shed loads of them through the staff shops, not seen one for at least ten years now though. Still have a PMC for one. 🙂

    Jim.
