Hi all
First time posting and hopefully someone can advise.
The only life in machine is door lock light on,but the door isnt locked and the machine wont do anything else.
Took the control board out and found an obvious blow on it.
where would you suggest starting.?could it of been a faulty door switch that blew the control board?.
If i manage to diagnose the fault could i bridge the blow on the control board with wire and solder?(would this be safe).
Any advice appreciated

Trace the blown tracks to see if it point to the interlock that caused the fault. If so, you need a new interlock first then try a board repair. The odds of a successful board repair is 50 x 50 at best though. 🙁

Quick update i have traced the problem back to the pressure switch.Going to change that then have a go at board repair.

Pressure switch is hardly ever the cause of blown pcb’s.

Had another look and there seems to be a lot of soot around the heating element,the element itself seems ok.what else in that area could of caused the problem?

Have you checked the element for insulation ?

Can i check the element for insulation with a normal multimeter or does it get more complicated than that?

It really depends upon the quality of your multimeter. If the heater has a dead short it should show up but a megger will highlight the very slightest earth leak.

I would be checking the motor brushes at the same time TBH.

Think i may give up on this one for the time being,thanks for your help.I have over the last couple of months been getting old machines and repairing them but have been very lucky with simple faults.
It has got me thinking about a possible career change into white goods and getting myself booked onto a course.
Any suggestions on that would be helpful i am aware of dixon training any others you are aware of?

I decided to have another go at machine and what seems to be the problem area is the motor.
Fixed the track on pcb turned machine on and the motor seems to be under resistance but will turn freely by hand so is it a knackered motor or possibly brushes?

Take them out and have a look I would. I’d also Megger the motor as a matter of course, check the state of the comm segments etc etc…..
