Ariston A1400WD not emptying on wash cycle

My Ariston A1400WD will empty if I turn the control to empty mode but does not empty during a normal cycle (it just fills up). I suspect the problem lies in the circuit board?
Two questions:

Firstly, is the board the same as that fitted to a A1600WD?

And second, I have read the new circuit board needs to be programmed to the machine and cannot simply be replaced, is this correct?

I ask the second question because I’m at my home in France and have a spare washing machine for the time being, and have found a good second hand circuit board from a A1600 WD.

the boards prob will be the same but the software is not. you cant even swop boards between the same models these days without checking first

the pump prob may be a fluke. these pumps have a problem with stalling as they get older. fill machine. then cancel programme, then set it to drain. then as soon as the pump starts pause the programme. wait 5 secs then start again. repeat and see if it stalls
