ParticipantHi
I have Ariston A1435 washing machine. 5 years old, used 3 times a week
the machine has two problems:1 – Few days the ago the belt come off. After fitting it back there was
an intermittent high pitched squealing noise coming from the drum area
/not the motor/
No noise when turned by hand /smooth action/ only when loaded and spun by the motor. Small amount of wd40 applied to the centre of the spider has “temporarily” cured the problem. There are no traces of any water leakage at the back of the drum, all looks clean. Is the seal on the drum bearing gone /no visible water leaks thou/
or the bearing just needed lubricating?
If it is the seal, how easy – difficult it is to replace it? Some posts to this forum would suggest that sometimes the removal of the whole drum is necessary.2 – When in 60 and 90 C wash the water does not seem to be hot enough. Have not actually measured it but in 90C the drum should be “to hot to touch”
Would it indicate a problem with the thermostat?Any advice appreciated

To answer your points:
From the front of the machine, observe where the door seal and inner drum line up. Put your hand into the top of the drum and try to lift. If there is any movement visible between the lip of the drum and the edge of the door seal, the drum bearings are failing and will need to be replaced.
The drive belt itself is eleasticated. They do stretch over time and can give rise to squealing noises and the occasional throwing off under load. Replacement is p/no C00074218, an email to spares@ukwhitegoods.co.uk if you wish to order one.
Please dont apply WD40 to the bearings – it will wash the grease out and shorten their life.
Heat – the wash water level in the drum is so low on these appliances that often the door glass will barely reflect the heat of the wash water. In addition, if the machine were not to heat the water within a given period the electronics would register a fault, causing the power lamp to flash and the programme dial to start clunking round.
HTH,

Thank you for the speedy response
Just checked for the drum line-up/movement, seems ok.
What would you use to lubricate the bearing? How likely it is for the temperature sensor to give false reading, or the just fail and do not read anything?

LM grease is the stuff for bearings. You can only get at the back one BTW – the other one and the seal are up against the back of the drum.
The temperature is contolled digitally by a thermistor sensor and a comparator array on the computer board. It is theoretically possible for the sensor to go out of regulation, but generally they work or they don’t. Failure would lead to the electronics deciding that the sensor is not present (fault) or temperature rise not detected in time allowed (fault). You shoiuld perform a service wash from time to time – run the machine empty with some powder at full heat – temperature will be much more noticable without a load on board.
Quite seriuosly, I’d get a replacement belt and see how things go from there.

Thank you very much for this extensive explanation addressing all of my questions.
I will try a new belt.
Thanks again
