ParticipantHello all,
My machine above has developed a bad whine which I suspected to be the bearing, singular. I was told by somebody at work that the majority of washing machines have a rear bearing on the shaft of the inner drum and rollers around the front to keep the inner drum running true.
I replaced the rear bearing on my machine but it still whines and bangs. To make matters worse, I can’t find any listings of front rollers only a second front bearing which I am assuming fits between inner and outer drum on the shaft.
If my assumption is true, do you have to remove the whole drum out the back of the machine?
Thank-you
Mark

You mention “bearing” in the singular? But there in fact are two bearings and a water seal on the drum spigot that should be replaced all together. I can’t imagine you have just changed one bearing, or have you? It is important to lubricate the drum shaft and collar with high speed grease to reduce the chances of whining noises at high speed!
The drum is not supported at the front by the way. 😉

On removing the back panel I could only see one bearing which I matched at work for a replacement.
On removing the large cross shaped mount at the rear of the drum and the fly wheel that the belt runs around I found only one bearing in it. Are you saying that there should be two sets of bearings in this X shaped unit or, as my previous post suggests, the second set of bearings is in fact between the inner and outer drum requiring the removal of the whole drum unit.
Thank – you for the swift response.
Mark
ps The noise is probably more of a loud tapping noise rather than a whine.

Both bearings and the seal are housed in the cross piece on the rear of the outer tub.
There is nothing else supporting the inner drum 🙂

I feel a Yurtesen moment coming on.
Can you post a picture of the ‘X’ piece viewed from either side, and the drum shaft ?
It may well be that the main ‘inner’ bearing has collapsed, if so then it may be new machine time. 😥
If you have half on hour to spare Mark, have a read of this.
perseveranceSimilar sort of problem.
