ParticipantHi,
My 3 year old Ariston A1635UK has suddenly developed a fault. When I push the power button all that happens is the door lock light comes on – regardless of whether the door is open or closed. Furthermore, the door is not locked…
I thought (from reading an old post on here) that this could be the door interlock – so I took that out and tested the switch, which seems to be working fine.
Anyone have any other ideas I could try before calling out the engineer?
Thanks in Advance

In what sense is the door lock OK? Does it actually lock the door? How did you test it?

It doesn’t lock the door – but I tested the switch was working with a multimeter.

Did you get a high resistance between two terminals and zero to the other?

it could be the carbon brushes have worn out in the motor when they go open circuit the machine will do nothing on that model

As for testing the switch – yes that’s what I got – and it changes when the switch is switched.
If it’s the carbon brushes – that’s probably beyond my rudimentary skills to fix, but is there an easy way to test that?
Many thanks for your replies so far.

it does mean taking the motor off and checking for continuity between the carbon brushes but if your not sure click on repairs@ for a local engineer its usually quite a cheap repair approx 50 to 60 squid inc parts and labour 😀
