Ariston A1636

Hi,

I’ve been reading around the site a lot and have found some really useful information so firstly many thanks for all the great info.

I’m hoping someone can help me, our Ariston Washing machine (A1636) has stopped draining. Error lights 2&4 (plus the lock led) are flashing. I’ve read this topic from years gone by: post170545.html#p170545 but (and I’m probably being stupid) I cannot find where the filter should be.

I’ve manually drained the machine which in my mind indicates that its probably not a blockage?! Then took off the back and I can see the pump, but I can’t locate the filter. In the manual it refers to a “drain duct” but not where it would be. Any chance anyone knows anything about this machine it would be much appreciated.

If I’m not being clear please let me know.

This actually has Hotpoint innards as opposed to the later Indesit ones.

The filter/coin trap is inside the large black rubber hose that you can see from the lower back panel. Have a few towels handy and be sure to unplug before you take it off.

I took that all apart and checked the filter – its wasn’t too bad just 65p worth of coins, a few hair clips and some underwire from a bra….. 🙂

Anyway, It all looked pretty clear so put it back together and the same issue is happening. In my mind I guess the pump is the problem, does anyone agree? I can clear the water from the machine easily enough using gravity so guess the pipes etc. are fine.

I’m sure I can fit it myself if it is that, what do you think? Any tips in removing and fitting it? i.e can I do it all via the back panel or shall I try and take a side off as well?

I tested the pump and I couldn’t detect a current through it so I’m assuming for sure that its the pump. I tried removing the pump but am struggling to get it out, there is one screw I cannot reach as it faces the side of the machine and I don’t have a torx screwdiver small enough, so either I need a smaller screw driver or need to open it up more. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

You may have a solid object inside the pump. You remove the pump complete with the white cover. It slips out easily, just depress the small lug underneath and slide it to the left.

Success! Well pump is out and definitely dead. I’m ordering a new one now.
