    Ciao,
    I too have a 3-year old Ariston A1636S Silver.
The door lock has decided not to work – it just will not stay closed.

If I turn the power off at the mains, then all of the lights momentarily and very quickly flash once. The same thing happens when I switch the mains back on.

    Help?

    Thanks,
    Claude

Deleted your duplicate post, if you post the same question in two threads you run the risk of confusion.

What actually happens when you select a programme and press the start button?

It could just be a simple door interlock failure.

    Jim.

    Thanks for replying.

(I have tried to delete my other entry but I am finding this difficult. They seem to be linked! When I delete one, the other disappears….)

    Anyway,
When I select a programme, and push the start button, the second button down (1st is prewash, 2nd wash, 3rd rinse, 4th spin) flashes once and then remains on. No other lights are on. The door will still not lock.

Is the door striker ok? The bit on the door that goes into the catch about 20 mm long usually metal but can be plastic,!!it should only move a little and spring back into position,if you can move it up and down then the metal rod inside the door holding it in place has worked its way upwards and allows the striker pin to move backwards..and not allowing the door to shut.

    Thanks for your reply,
I’ve looked at the catch/ latch on the washing machine door – it is metal and is still sprung perfectly. It is functioning as it is supposed to.

What happens is this: When I push the door closed, the small metal catch/ latch goes into the hole in the washing machine body ok but, where normally you hear it click, (obviously as it is caught by the mechanism inside) now nothing happens. So, I am able to pull open the door again, without having to release the latch with the door handle.

Should I check the small hole that the door catch goes into? Do you mean that a plate has come loose in there?

    Thanks for your help.

The door has an inner and an outer panel. Kiddo is telling you that you need to take the door off and separate the panels in order to see the pivot pin in the door catch.
