I solved that one by up-ending the machine, and releasing the lock from below.
Then I had to re-attach the weight. It had apparently been coming loose for some time as the location holes, which should have been slots just wide enough to prevent the coachbolt heads from rotating had worn extensively. The answer to that was to MIG weld the heads to the drum -tack welding inside the casing, on the patio, at night ! Well, against the odds, it worked (without burning holes in the drum casing nor the gasket) !
The drum had also jumped off one support spring, so with mighty effort that was repositioned.
All is now well and working !
