ParticipantPlease could someone offer advice – apart from the obvious which is buy a new dishwasher – lol. 😕
I have an Ariston AFA250 that has started to “act up”. This morning when I tried to start a wash it bleeped once as normal, then made its usual noise sounding like a pump kicking in which lasted about 2 secs then it stopped. Now it wont do anything. I have tried switching on and off, unplugging for a few minutes and trying again to see if could reset, tipping the machine onto its back (read on another site that this resets the overflow????) and then putting back upright and switching on again, cleaning the filter thing inside.
It did it about 2 weeks ago and after I slammed the door in a tantrum it started again and has been fine since, but now it is digging its heels in and refusing to be “persuaded” to work.
It has also got a very slight leak over the last 5 or 6 weeks from underneath somewhere.
Unlike the other posts that I have seen on here regarding this model I dont have any lights flashing at me or any such thing, when I turn it to a program in bleeps once and when I turn it back to reset it bleeps 4 times.
Can anyone solve my problem?
Thanks for your help folks! 😕April 23, 2009 at 9:52 pm #283960iadom

When you tipped it back did any water run out from underneath?
If it did then you may have an internal leak that has tripped the anti flood float switch.
Any leak or unusual noise on any domestic electrical appliance should be investigated ASAP.
You should not have run it for five or six weeks with a leak. Doing this can lead to serious damage to the machine or even worse things, such as a fire. :lesson:
If as you say it started again after you banged it then it may have a loose or burnt out connection somewhere.
Be sure to remove the plug if you intend to investigate further.

A very small amount of water came out, but was a minimal amount. Of course the appliance was off and unplugged at the time.
Will try and locate leak source at the weekend, are there any obvious places I should investigate. And same for locating the problem!
From an experienced point of view, do you think its feasible to get a callout/replacement parts, or is it viable to scrap it and buy a new one.

Difficult to say without seeing the machine. Slight leaks are often caused by a circulation pump leak, usually a fairly obvious rusty spot on the baseplate directly underneath the motor and not really worth replacing, part over £100.00. All Indesit machines are prone to oversoaping and leaking into the base, in this instance the baseplate will have a chalky white film over most of its surface.

I have visually checked it, and also tried to simulate a closed door by flicking the switch uinside the handle, but still no response.

Have you removed the baseplate and looked underneath?
Sounds like it might be engineer time, electrical test of wiring and components is the next step.
