Ariston as 100

Hi uk whitegoods. After reading stuff in the forum I decided to check the resistance of my as100 heating element to see if that has failed, causing the lack of hot water in our dishwasher.

What a fool, I can’t decide/tell which are the element terminals. Can you give me any pointers?

Sorry Jim we can’t give you a blow-by-blow and if you’re able to go in and look you should be well able to suss what and where the heater is. Power off before you even go look.

If anyone else is wondering it is the wrap-around spiral assembly at the rear right.

All seems to check out, but the machine continues to wash cold.
I did notice that the row of three….cylinders, with thermal grease on them were not in close contact with the bottom of the washing area. Two read open, one reads closed.

Could this have anything to do with it?

If not , what do I check next?

Jim,
Ken wasn’t being funny but if you come out with something like that alarm bells start ringing ok.
As for the thermostats not touching underside of stainless, this was a big problem with indesit and ariston dishwashers. The face of the stats have to touch the base of the tank or they sense an incorrect temperature.
They would almost certainly make the appliance over heat and trip the thermal device (usually resettable rear right underneath)

Unplug before investigating please

Thanks Greg that all makes sense, I’ll find a way to put some pressure on that unit, I see now that the sensors are all spring-loaded, theoretically to keep them in contact…

The thermal device.. what would that look like Greg? Roughly

Element bench tested to be ok, stats in good contact with new thermal grease, but still no power to the element. Can’t find any reset item, stumped…

Without knowing the machine fully,just going of previous models, the reset as I said is usually rear right but could ne anywhere underneath on yours.
It usually has a black or red knobbly end in the centre, which when depressed will give a click indicating it has been tripped. It should heat after that 😀

I’ve had a close look all over underneath, and if there’s a reset button, it’s really really well hidden, my mate from bomb disposal couldn’t spot one either.

Any alternatives?

Sorry Jim, there was no more info forthcoming.
If you looking for a replacement, the Bosch are reasonable machines and have 2yr parts and labour included.

The timer was at fault.
The thermostats should read main one closed, othr two open.
The copreci mechanical timer is no longer repaired by qer.I would say make a note of your connections, take off the timer, spray the switching area with wd40 and rotate the knob loads of times. Spray again, rotate again loades, leave to drain overnight and clean up. Re-fit.

Greg, this was a solution back in nov 2005 by iandms, and you said then that you had known a timer cause lack of heating…I guess you must have forgotten.
