ParticipantThe drum on my daughter’s machine gradually fills with water when not in use – doesn’t appear to be from the supply pipes, the waste is at the recommended height and I’ve checked the filter on the front for foreign bodies and washed it out. It does smell a bit as well, suggesting it is waste water. It has been working properly in its present location.
Any thoughts?August 11, 2006 at 9:37 am #184815Dave_Conway

If the water smells it can only be back-syphoning from the waste to be honest 😉
To narrow it down, turn the hot and cold taps off overnight and see if it still fills 🙂

If the water smells and is not clean check the position of the outlet hose. I suspect it is connected under the sink to the waste pipe but has no height to it so when water from the sink is drained some is going back into the machine

No – perhaps I wasn’t totally clear in my initial description – the waste is hooked into an independent standpipe, clear of the trap, so it seems as if any water finding its way back into the drum must be coming from somewhere internal – could it be that the pump is not evacuating enough water? – or running back in from the waste pipe. When I removed the cap to the filter at the bottom front there was quite a lot of water – should that be the case? Thanks for your help and thoughts.

If the end of the hose is shoved all the way to the bottom of the pipe, it’ll syphon back……….. End of hose should be fixed about 2″ above the centreline of the washer drum.
