KeymasterHi,
I have a ariston awd 12s margherita which just before it gets to the rinse cycle the dial starts clicking and rotating and flashes 13 times. Does anyone know what the error means? Thanks
Mark

13 times usually refers to a dryer temperature fault rather than during a rinse cycle 😕 . Did you have the dryer set as well when this fault showed up?

HI Martin,
No I didn’t have the dryer set. Could it be something to do with a problem with the intake of cold water?
It seems to drain but not take any more water in.

Hi Mark
Have you reset the washer and tried it on a wash programme again? and is it definatly 13 flashes – pause – 13 flashes whilst the dial is clicking round?

Hi Clyde,
Yeah, I’ve tried resetting the programme and trying it again. If it is linked to the dryer it could be the same thing which happened before. Just before the guarantee ran out I managed to get a repairman in. It was one of the connectors to dryer bit was faulty from the vibrations of the washing machine. I will try and find a repairman. I justed wanted the 13 flashes comfirming. Thanks for your help

Hi,
The repairman came today. The machine is sending power to the dryer even before it gets to the dryer setting and even when I have not set the dryer programme at the end of the wash cycle.
The repairman thinks it is the board which controls the washing machine. He has quoted me £104 for a new board and £20 labour. Does £104 seem alot for a new board? Thanks for any help.

That’s the correct price for the more expensive of the two boards for this model, there are two depending on serial number, the other one is about £20 cheaper so it’s correct yes.
The labour though is very cheap, was this on top of a call out charge or the total labour for everything ?

Hi Dave,
Yes, he said it was the more expensive board. The total of 124 was for everything. He said he would need to take the washing machine back to shop to run it a few to make sure the board new board was working if I decided to go for it.
There wasn’t a call out charge.
He also offered a recondition board for 74 + 20 labour. Is buying a reconditioned board a bad idea?
Thanks

Yeah, refurbished PCB’s are fine on the whole.
I have to say though (and I am not trying to discredit your engineer in any way) alarm bells always ring when machines have to be uplifted to workshops for repairs that can easily be carried out in the home, especially as he’s only charging you £20, it will cost more than that in time/fuel 😉

Hi Dave
He told me he had to take it to the shop because the board is used by different machines and so it might need reprogramming or at least putting the wash cycle through a few times to make sure the board works with the machine.
Maybe it might be worth ringing another repairman and seeing what they say.

The problem your guy has and we all have is that there is little technical information available for these due to Merloni’s reluctance to release it to the trade in general.
I would let him carry on as he’s taken the time and effort to call already, let us know the outcome please though 😀
Dave.
