I have recently had a problem with this machine (only 1.5yrs old). One night, it was on the drying cycle, and I heard a noise. Went to the kitchen and the machine was still operating normally. Used the machine a few days later, and noticed it wasnt drying the clothes. Decided to just wash clothes next time, and the clothes werent warm.
Therefore the clothes are not warming in the wash cycle or the drying cycle.
I took the covers off the machine and cleaned the filter at the back on the bottom of the drum. I also had a look at the top of the drum where I think the heating element is. I noticed the fan for the dryer wasnt spinning freely, so after a bit of general persuasion, I managed to get the fan to spin freely, I thought this was the prob fixed – but it was still cold. Where are the heating elements on this machine? Is one going to be by this fan for the dryer? Is there a trip switch on this machine?
Please help. I would like to fix this myself

    Thanks for your attention 😀

Almost certainly safety thermostat failure, given that the fan was not running.

Check the model number please, can’t find a reference to an AWD1600.

    Power off, of course.

Is that the cut out one? I’ve been looking at a few spare parts sites…they dont call them cut out/safety ones only thermostats. Are they the same?

Re: ARISTON AWD 1600 Washer / Dryer

This part is not simple to change. you have to dismantle the whole of the heater box to access the fixing screws. You also need to ascertain why the stat has failed in the first place, is the condenser blocked, do you switch it off before it has gone through the cool down stage at the end of the cycle, is the dryer fan faulty etc.

There have been several modifications to the dryer assembly on this machine and its Hotpoint cousins . You are covered by manufacturers five year parts guarantee, the complete modified heater box includes everything, even new fan motor.

Where’s the condenser on it? Bottom of the drum in a rubbery thing? I have cleaned that. I think it may have something to do with my girlfriend putting a wet pillow in the dryer! (truth comes out after a while) Does it sound as though it overheated then? The air wasnt able to circulate?

So if I can get in touch with Ariston they should be able to help?

Re: ARISTON AWD 1600 Washer / Dryer

If as you say the fan was not running correctly then that is the likely cause of your problem. Freeing it up will only be a temporary fix, as soon as it gets hot it will seize again.

Ariston/Hotpoint/Indesit. all come under the Indesit Company umbrella.
No extended warranty on most Indesit products but the Hotpoint machines and the Ariston based on the Hotpoint are covered for 5 years on parts only.
You will have to pay the labour charge of just under £90.00. It is unlikely that a local independant firm could fit you the complete heater box assembly for less than that.

    Jim.
