Ariston AWD12 Margherita 2000 – Door not opening

Hey, water is al drained but I cant seem to get the door open, is there another way to pop open the door ? Secret latch ? Thanks in advance.

If you remove the mains plug and the door does not open within a couple of minutes then your door interlock may have jammed. No easy way in, you have to physically bend the doorlock back and forwards until it either breaks or releases then replace with a new door lock. The top needs removing to access.

It could also be the door handle/latch mechanism, very weak and prone to failure on these ‘Indesit’ machines.

If you can pull the handle out then it will be the handle that has broken, if you cannot pull the handle without forcing or breaking it then the lock will have jammed.

Be sure to remove the plug before you put your hands inside.

Thanks, yeah, I may have caused the problem by trying (reaonably hard) to open the door when it hadn’t finished its cycle, and it seems to have left the door handle kinda ‘limp’, I can pull it out, but it just flaps about with no real ‘pull’ left in it :/

Sounds like the handle is broken ?

If I brake off the handle can I get the door open ? and replace the handle myself ? Or would I need to get a handyman in anyway ?

Lid off, power off – look down the inside for the lock and you may be able to see the door hook poking through. You may be able to pop the door by moving it – if not, the advice above applies.

BTW, a handyman will have no chance – a repairer from the repairs@ link below would be a far better choice.

I really would rather suggest a simpler method of opening the door that doesn’t involve the very difficult ‘lid off’ approach. 😉

With a small ‘electricians screwdriver’ (I modified one by bending the very tip of it by 90 degress to form a little hook*) you can flick the male door probe slightly to the left and thus releasing the door catch….easy! 🙂

Then you need to email spares@ukwhitegoods.co.uk and ask for a C00065250 Handle Kit (white) or if its a silver handle then C00081331) 😉

You will have to break off the handle, (don’t worry, it is already broken inside) to reveal the end of the latch lever or ‘Male probe’ 😯
The replacement comes with all the parts needed but doesn’t mention just how difficult it is to refit. 😥

Really appreaciate all your help guys.
Last question (all going well), will I have to take the lid off or something that is super hard ? Ie: requiring me to call out an engineer anyway or is it worth a crack. So to speak 😕

Removing the lid is dead easy but if you manage to release the latch from the front you don’t need to remove the lid, changing the latch assembly should provide you with an interesting and possibly frustrating challenge, 😉 take the door right off the hinge to make it a little easier and have a good look at where all the bits go before you start.
