Hi i wonder if you can help me please…..
I have an Ariston AWD12 washer / dryer which has developed a fault.
On a wash cycle the machine fails to spin – i can hear a wirring noise as if it is trying.
But put the machine onto a spin cycle and the machine spins ok – upto a point, after say 2 to 3 mins the fault occurs again (wirring noise)

    Thanks

The wirring noise you can hear is the pump rather than it attempting to spin. Is it draining the water ok? there is a filter under the front plastic “kick plate”. Other than looking there its engineer time I think.

yeah, the water is getting drained away ok …. and checking the front filter was the first thing i did … none of the above then .. thanks anyway.

Whirring noise?….could be the tumble dryer fan coming on? Is the dryer set?

Ive never used the dryer on it (or should i say the bread knife doesn’t 😆 )
why you thinking this could be switched on somehow ?

Love the expression by the way 😆

Only that the dryer motor does make a gentle whirring noise when its on, so I wondered if it was that you where hearing? If you set a dryer cycle running, you will hear the fan whirring away to confirm if it’s the same noise perhaps???

i’ll certainly look into it – but i doubt it ’cause on the wash cycle it does fill up with water, but then won’t rotate.
can the dryer be switch on when selecting a wash programme causing it to conflict somehow ??

I doubt it too now you’ve told me that fact! When you mentioned wash cycle and failing to spin I thought you meant the spin part of the whole cycle? But I see now that you meant that it doesn’t turn during the main wash part of the cycle

Oh dear! oh dear! The bad news is….Friday the 13th and all that…. Your motor is at fault (and/or) the main control module. 😥

Costly business I’m afraid, but expert help will be needed to confirm (see link below)

You will be going from one cheap Italian machine to another, It might be a hackneyed saying, but in this trade it really is true, “you only get what you pay for.”

hmmm….cheers jim…. i’m thinking go for a cheap one and if i get 3 or 4 years out of it then all is good,
rather than go for something on the expensive side.
    im looking around £250-£300
and the candy go126 looks a nice design and is energy efficient.

    Re: ariston awd12 spinning fault

For £300 you are just creeping into lower to mid range Bosch prices, a far better proposition than any Indesit/Ariston/Candy range. I am still repairing Hotpoint and Hoover machines that are well over 25 years old, sadly both of those brands are now Italian owned, along with Servis, all are now considered by the trade to be lower end products. We are doing our best here at UKWG’s to try and educate the public away from the ‘buy cheap. throw it away’ mentality. If you stop and think about it for one minute, buy a cheapo, sub £250 machine, throw it away after 3 years and buy another. in less than ten years time you will have spent £750 plus the cost of any repairs/insurance on machines that are likely to fail more often than the alternative. Pay £400 to £500 and you will, with luck get a machine that will last ten years or more with far less down time in that period. Do the maths, think of the environment, think of your pocket over the long term, you know it makes sense. 8)
