KeymasterFan running, heater heating, but poor air circulation and drum stops after 10 minutes or so, restarts if power switch cycled.
1. Where does air leave drum to return to fan/heater assy?
2. Should drum reverse during drying (I suspect when it stops it should infact be going the other way)
Thanks for any help.

The fan or the condenser is blocked with fluff by the sounds of it.
The air will constantly circulate via the condenser unit and will re-enter the drum via the upper part of the door seal and leave via a hose at the bottom or rear of the drum.
Yes, it should reverse the drum as far as I am aware on all condenser washer dryers.

Yep! Condensor unit blocked with fluff and/or the water supply to it or through it is also at fault. 😉
Get a local independant expert in to take a look (many are listed in our “Directories” section)

Thanks Guys,
I have had the fan/heater casing off and cleared the small amount of dust which had accumulated. I can hear water entering condenser and being pumped out. large port in top of door seal is clear. I have also had hose off bottom of condenser and poked right through – is this where air re-circulates, seems a bit small, only about 1″ dia? I was looking for something of similar size to entry port.
Is lack of reverse action likely to be motor control board?
A bit dissapointed with an appliance which is only three or four years old and is hardly thrashed to death with only me and the wife in the household – whatever happens to Ariston – and on – and on – and……………

To be honest I don’t know if your model of machine should actually do a reverse tumble during the dry cycle? Usually as Dave says, they do normally but if yours doesn’t, then I wouldn’t worry too much at this stage.
If however it is a problem then get back to us and we will investigate for you 🙂

ModeratorThe condenser inlet is on the back of the tub where the plastic condensor bolts onto the tub. There is a drilled metal plate hidden under here which gets blocked. Its a nightmare to access though and would recommend expert help.

Ah that sounds more like it, I thought the small hose at the bottom of the condensor looked more like a drain only. I’ll have another look.
Thanks again.

Good call! Took condensor off (not too difficult – for anyone with rubber arms!) and perforated metal plate was SOLID with lint, fair bit in condensor itself as well. Cleaned it all up, working through holes in drum to get to inside, and the dryer will once more get stuff hot enough to burn your hands.
What a rotten piece of design though – looks like something which should really have an annual clean, so why wasn’t it made more accessible?
Now all I need to do is get drum rotation sorted (it is doing the same on wash cycles – five or ten minutes of anti-clock rotation followed by nothing until power switch is cycled – motor control board?) and stop the dryer fan making an horrible din (probably fried bearings due to heat soak when air flow was down to practically zero).
Thnks for all your help – this goes a long way to convincing my wife that the internet is not just a sophisticated porn delivery sytem 😉
