I haven’t looked at Connect, I’ll just get depressed again.

Three…… and a half…….. and a large Jamesons and now I’ve got a tin of Morrisons finest – note how the spelling and grammar has improved!
Since I opened the account, I have had no contact with Connect. Not a phone call, no offer of an area rep sticking his head round the door, and no response to emails querying certain prices where their price exceeded the SSP from the manufacturer. It did actually take (after 3 attempts to get an account by phone) me accosting Mr Parker at the last meeting to get the forms, sent them in and Lo! an account.
I am annoyed and embarrassed about the way things currently stand. As a sole trader I have £12-1500 a month to spend on spares and nobody’s going to get all of it (nobody’s got everything), so I ain’t going to have the worlds greatest buying power.
However, if you balance this against my time as Whitegoods Spares Controller for a large High Street Retailer, you have to understand that I know exactly and precisely how the spares business plays. Even those of you who are happy with your current pricing structures are paying too much – far too much.
Brushes? Pence. Belts? Pence. Timers and Motors? £10-15. Modules? Less than £10. Digiboards – £20 tops. Pumps? £1. It all goes on and on.
Buy Gen? You’re paying at least three times. Maker, machine manufacturer, UK distributor, wholesaler – you. Just bear in mind that there ain’t nobody making a loss.
Oh well, I suppose I might stir some emotion amongst you, but read and consider this – it’s how it is now. Anyone got any ideas what we should do to change it?
Second can of beer beckons, so greater minds than mine can ponder this and come up with a real killer idea over the weekend.

Chris, if you were getting parts at those sort of prices, would you pass on the savings to your customers or would they just be getting ripped off by you instead of the firms further up the supply chain? 😉

I think if we were getting consistently cheaper prices on spares then we could pass on some savings to customers and at the same time increase our profit for our hard graft.
At the moment if I source a part slightly cheaper than normal then yes that extra is mine but I do not feel any sense of ripping anyone off.See what you`ve started boro………you only asked for a price on an element . 😆

So long as I get my £40/hr, the customer can have the parts at more or less what I pay for them.
This means that we used to able to fit a Hotpoint armature for £65 and the customer would pay happily. Given the price of my last batch, this job is now £82, which customers won’t pay.
I may add a couple of quid on for special order stuff which involves lots of phone calls and chasing around, but that is only common sense.

Just to make it more confusing my prices are £4.10 for the genuine element and £4.50 FOR THE PATTERN ONE
