Ariston Fridge Freezer not working

Hi All,

I inherited an Ariston fridge freezer when i bought my flat last year – it’s built in which i suspect means that it dates from the time my flat was built 6 or 7 years ago.

I came home from holiday to find that both the fridge and freezer sections had defrosted and now they won’t get cold again.

The light still works but the only other sign of life is a whirring sound for 3 or 4 seconds followed by a click and then silence. This happens every five minutes or so.

I would be really grateful for your thoughts on what is likely to be wrong with it and whether it’s terminal.

That would be the compressor being fubarred. The clicking is the thermal overload clicking in and out, It is probably seized. To replace your looking at between £150-£250 as a very very rough guess.
