Ariston LSI 61 dishwasher wont drain and stops after cold ri

Our Ariston LSI61 dishwasher stops after initial cold rinse has completed, but before the detergent drawer opens, leaving cold water in the base.

Once the rinse has ended, it starts to whirr/hum then after approx. 2 mins, the ‘R’ light begins to flash at approx. 1flash/sec. I believe this indicates either a drain pump fault or drain blockage. (I have checked and there is no blockage in the waste pipe)

I had the PCB repaired 5 years ago when the machine stopped AFTER the detergent drawer opened, so I suspect this is something different?
Is this a drain pump problem or could it be the PCB again?
Can anyone help?

Do you mean the initial cold fill prewash, the rinses are done at the end of most programmes.

Are the spray arms going round at all? If not then it sounds like the main motor may have seized. If it does spray but not drain then it could be a blockage inside the drain pump itself.

If by R you mean the Rapid programme light then that is a wash or drain pump fault, does it empty if you reset the programme?

Yes – I mean that is stops after the initial cold fill prewash.
The spray arms do rotate, but the cold water from the prewash remains in the base of the unit.
You’re right, by ‘R’, I mean the Rapid Wash indicator light. As for resetting, if I switch off (O/I) and then re-select ‘Normal Wash’ the machine won’t start, presumably because it senses water in the base. Once I’ve drained it (by hand), selecting ‘Normal Wash’ will start that program again from the start, but the program again stops once the cold prewash has completed.
– so from your advice above, it looks like there may be a drain pump fault !
Thanks a lot for your help….at least I know now not to waste £40 sending the PCB away again for repair!

Pump blockages not uncommon on these Indesit dishwashers, chips off plates, pieces of bone, small shards of glass etc.

I’ll need to have someone come in to take a look as its beyond my (limited) expertise, but I’ll post again once I have a result – shame it wasn’t the water pump on my car – I could have fixed that myself!!

I would rate accessing and cleaning the pump on this ten times easier than a cars water pump, depending which car of course. 😉
