ParticipantHi I wonder 😕 if you can help me I have a Ariston Margherita 2000 A1435, washing machine, that tripped the electrics on the house, on resetting the switch, and removing the washing (It did smell as if somthing had burned out). I switched the washer back on to see if this would trip again, so I ran a cycle without any washing in, Everything seemed ok and the electrics did not trip, but when rotating with what would have been a full load, the drum rotated the clicked as if it was stuck. have disconected from the mains and removed back inspection panel everything appears to be ok. could there be a problem with the motor ❓

I’m pretty certain that is the problem. Now with the POWER OFF :zap: , removing the drive belt and rotating the motor by hand it should turn easily and relatively silently. If it doesn’t you need a new motor 😥

ParticipantDone that, and motor is making no strange noises, alot of carbon off the brushes lying arround, so had a look at them appears to be about 1/2″ left on each. My wife now tells me that this was the forth load she had done in a row. Is it worth fitting new brushes (where cann I get them from) or checking anything else ❓ 😕

Hmmmmm, very likely then the motor has overheated and burnt out (it probably will have a slight whiff of burning?) New brushes will not resolve that one I’m afraid. It will need an ‘Insulation tester’ on it to confirm for sure but I’m 95{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} its the motor cooked 🙁

Here in the trade we use a 500volt insulation tester which measures in Megohms, and the reading should be more than 50 megohms. Very likely a multimeter (your Fluke) will not show any loss of insulation to earth. But if it does of course, then you know the answer. 😉
Can you smell burning from it I wonder, noses can be handy things for diagnostics sometimes? 😀

ParticipantIt did after it tripped, there is still a faint smell.
The fluke measures up to 600v where do i stick the probes 😯 (please be nice). So if it is cooked, would this account for the drum turning a couple of times then clicking. If it does need replacing then what sort of cost am I looking at. Would it be better to get a new washer, do you recommend any?

It sounds like a goosed armature to me! New motor time, £125+ish from memory? 😯
A new motor should solve the problem, but those machinme are notorious for having cheap, dodgey electronics (IMHO). If the motor is trying to turn, the electronics should be ok.
But, if it was my machine, I’d find some kind of giant trebuchet, and launch it as far away as possible 🙁
New machine?
