KeymasterHi,
I’ve got an Ariston Margherita 2000 model AWD10UK which has just packed up.
When I select a program, it whirrs into life and starts to do its thing but after a minute or so the program selector knob on the front starts clicking round in circles.
If I leave it it just sits there with the selector knob constantly rotating at around 1 click every 2-3 seconds.
Any ideas?
Thanks in advance!

When the knob starts clicking around look at the power neon. This will flash a number of times and then there will be a short gap and it will flash again. Count the number of flashes and post on the site and someone will help you out. Please be advised that these machines are absolute sods to repair even for those of us trained by Ariston. Good Luck.

10 flashes indicates a water level system failure. However from my experience this can be very misleading as the main circuit board can cause many and varied false readings. 😥 But at least it’s a start for somewhere to seek out the fault 🙄

Thanks Martin!
Do you happen to know where abouts the water level sensor is situated off the top of your head?

Eric,
Its not a ‘water level sensor’ I refer to but a “Water level system fault code”. Not a job for the ‘handyman’ really but someone who knows would need to be sought. Check out one of our guys who can help via our ‘Directories’ listing. (Just type in your postcode area.)

Thanks for all your help…
I think the solution here will be to bin it and buy a new one. Its only 18 months old and has already required a new motor.
My confidence in this model is pretty low and since it only cost £300 new I’m not sure its worth investing more money in.
Got the feeling that repairing it would only place it under additional stress and cause it to go wrong 😉

I agree with your sentiments Eric, or as we say in the trade : – “If in doubt chuck it out…………..and by a Bosch!”

Sorry to drag this post out…
But is Bosch a good make to go for then ( in terms of lasting longer than a few years )?

IMO Bosch is nowdays no better than any mid range washing machine, If its a washer dryer you need, not recommended but if thats what you want, the Bosch one is ok but you must go for the one about £800, the £500 one is a heap of trash. If its just a washer you want Miele or Asko are the ones to go for but neither are cheap but you wont be throwing them out after 18 months.
As for your Ariston, maybe you should get someone in as it may not be so bad, even so, dont expect a long life from it.June 14, 2004 at 6:49 pm #112462Alex

Small point. Ariston branded products carry a 5 year parts warranty.
The repairs on this range is for a specialist though as part of the kit is a remote control unit as in your T.V. If you call them out, hope you get a Merloni trained engineer from the old regime, there again I’d love to see a Hotpoint tech. get his head round one of those.

hello 😉
i’m from france.. i just found your forum by mistake, but that’s awesome
because i have a question too….:-)
i have also a ariston margherita … is there a way to empty the filter?thanks for your awswers
best regards, pierre paris 😀

ParticipantBonjour Pierre,
There is a filter behind the cover panel at the bootpm of the front of the machine. Pull the panel off, and the filter cover can be unscrewed. Bear in mind that the machine is never empty, so have a big towel or mop to hand! If the machine has actually stopped full of water, you will need to empty it by bringing the drain hose down into a bucket before unscrewing the filter.Pull the plug first, bon chance,
Penguin45.

Pierre, post your model number as a French Ariston could literaly be anything and some do not have filters or if they do some are designed for engineers only to remove. If you have a filter it will be obvious as Penguin said but the fact you asked the question in the first place may mean you have not got one.
