Ariston Margherita 2000 AWD 12

I have been reading this forum all morning as I have a problem with my AWD 12, but I cannot find exactly the same problem as mine. It is approximately 4 years old and has been working fine until recently (serial number 311263475)

The problem – a cycle will start and fill with water and then the dial starts turning and clicking. whilst this is happening the red light flashes 7 times. I understand from this site that this indicates the fault. I cannot find anywhere a reported problem with 7 flashes!

Before parting with £90 as quoted by the service centre, I would be grateful if anybody could enlighten me of the problem. It may be something simple that we could fix ourselves or it might be worth buying a new machine instead.

Any advice greatly appreciated.

From the error codes list it looks like this is a problem with the heater relay so the main circuit board needs to be renewed or repaired. Might be worth getting an engineer via this site and asking for an estimate.

Hi

You have a free 5 year parts warranty on this machine so all you have to pay for is the engineers call out fee. This might be the cheaper option given the price of a module.

If I were doing this job I would change the relay and charge rather less than an Merloni call out fee.

Neither am I, I used to work for them up to about a month ago…I was just advising the cheapest option for changing a module…IMHO opinion reparing a PCB is not something that should be carried out in a kitchen.

try the heater – an o/c heater sometimes gives an f7 fault

im sure you’ll go far, talking yourself out of work, a relay takes about 15mins to change, and is certainly a cheaper option

one day, your gonna realise that indesit/hotpoint are plainly ripping people off, and we all should try and help the customer, not the manufacturer, who will invariably grow bigger, and more powerful, and make it so the conusmer HAS to go back to them for the repair

and that is inherrently wrong

try loking at the bigger picture

Helo and Stripey – this is a Public Forum, let’s try and answer the OP’s question………

F7 is the heater relay fault; unfortunately, this is not a magic bullet. The heater and wiring can both be at fault, easily checked with a test meter and some observation. The relay on the pcb can be at fault. If you are electronically competent, the relay can be sourced through the likes of Radio Spares and other similar companies. However, the driver circuits can equally well be faulty, in which case it all gets rather complex. At this point PCB replacement becomes a more attractive option. Given that it will need an EEprom as well, company service becomes rather more attractive, given the price of the components involved.

If the OP is uncertain about any of the above, he should seek professional advice. If pursuing the fault, ensure that the power is off at all times.
