I have had my loving machine for at least 4 years, and she is now not very happy. 😥

As soon as it starts to spin it makes a hell of a noise, so much so that I have to stop the machine for fear of anything catastrophic happening. I have also noticed that if I try to move the drum by hand it seems tight, but I can not find anything stuck around the drum or seal.

I also can not open the filter at the bottom. It just does nothing more that turn anti clockwise and back again.

I am not very techincally minded when it comes to these things…..any help please??? Can she be helped or is she beyond repair? 😕

Did this noise appear suddenly or it gradually increased?
And when you turn the drum with hand, does it still make noise?

Sometimes when something gets stuck in the filter, it make make noiesse because it touches the small fan of the drain pump. You will probably have to pull it a bit hard as somethings must be stuck in there.Use pilers or some other tool to pull it out.

    Let us know what happens.

A minor success, managed to open the filter, to find to our amazement £2.50, and Alan Key, a hair bobble and a collar stiftener.

Nothing else there….so tried a spin cycle again.

It seems to be more off a thudding once the spin gets going, then gets quite violent…

I could usually spin the drum without too much effort by hand when it was empty, but now it feels like it is tight or caught.

I’m too scared to use it at the moment! 😕

sounds something major to me.It could be the bearings, drum pulley or the stone broken. But again if some metal is stuck inside the drum that could quite noisy as well.

Better to have it checked and see how it goes.
5 years out of ariston is not bad.You have been quite lucky in my opinion.

You sound like you have an item of clothing stuck between the inner and outer drum. Either remove a wash paddle and look for it or remove the sump hose and do the same.

The other half has been looking at the machine, and thinks that the belt at the back looks a little loose. Also tested it again yesterday, and the the motor works, but the drum in now not going around.

Don’t want to give up and get my Miele just yet….

    Any thoughts????

To be honest the belts do not stretch over a time. It may be something stuck inside the drum like socks or something.

Can you turn the drum with your hand with the machine off?

And if it turns then do you still hear abnormal noise?

It is very common for belts to stretch, that is why there is provision to tighten the belts on older machines. With the new ‘stretchy’ belts, there is no adjustment so if the belt is slack or comes adrift it should be replaced.

To start the drum was very stiff at first to turn, but then turned by hand really light now. As if there is nothing there. I don’t rememeber it bing so easy to tuen.

It doesn’t make any noise at all.. Any eerie silence in fact.

Is my machine destined for the scrap? 😕

You need to apply a bit of logic here. It may not be the greatest machine ever built, but you have to give it a chance. Is the belt on? If the drum resisted and is now free, there may well be something between the drums. Extracting it can be a problem. Heater out is the usual solution.

If you are not sure how to proceed, you must get pro help. Power off if you wish to investigate.
