Firstly and most importantly, the are NO circumstances where you must check the machine power supply with a meter, live testing is not only dangerous but unnecessary too :zap:

Having done so you haven’t eliminated an intermittent power supply anyway. The best way to rule that out is to temporarily run it to another socket outlet and see what happens…if the fault remains then that DOES eliminate the supply being the cause.

Let us know what happens?

fault was a dry joint on the printed circuit board causing a complete machine power failure, resoldering the joint solved the problem, machine now working

Clive is quite right to point out that LIVE testing is both dangerous and unnecessary.This forum is open to people who have no electrical experience,and no knowledge of how to use meters etc.
The engineers that answer peoples queries will always assume that the poster has very little or no knowledge of the appliances.

Safety has to be paramount therefore live testing will never be encouraged or overlooked.
