ParticipantHello all
can anyone help me please, my washing machine is noisey when on spin cycle, sounds like something metal rattling around inside, which there isn’t. Took back plate off to have a look.
Appears to be rusty water leaking from middle of spider which is spraying around inside. Thinking its the bearing ? If so is it a difficult job as I am thinking to tackle it myself ?
Any advice much appreciated
Thanks

Not the easiest of jobs and often involves considerable loss of blood due to having to work in confined spaces with razor sharp edges all round.
The best thing to do is to attempt to remove the bearings first. They can be housed in either a heavy, cast iron four legged support spider or one of two different alloy ones.
Be sure to remove the mains plug first of course.
There are different bearings for each bearing support.
Removal of the torx bolt holding the drum pulley on will also present you with some difficulty.
If you do succeed in removing the bearing support spider then you need to examine the drum shaft very carefully.
If it shows signs of serious wear then I would suggest you take the machine to the tip. It has a sealed drum so a complete new drum assembly is needed if the drum shaft is badly damaged.

Thanks for the quick reply iadom.
Sounds like more trouble than its worth but thats good to know.
Do you think its worth getting a plumber to look at it and do you know what its likely to cost ?
Thanks again

GRRRRRRIf there is one thing that is like a red rag to a bull to us folk its calling a domestic appliance engineer a ‘plumber’ 👿
Why on earth would you ask a plumber to fix a washing machine, you wouldn’t ask me to come and unblock your toilet would you. :rolls:
The nearest plumbers get to washing machines most of the time is when they plumb them in, and 50{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} of the time they balls that up as well. 😥
OK. Calmed down now. 😀
If you can get the bearings off and the drum shaft is in good order then it is a viable repair. Even if you have to get a decent local ‘WASHING MACHINE ENGINEER’ out to have a look it should be worth doing. 8)
