ParticipantModel Number: AV 1048C UK
Model Name: Marguerita
Colour: White
Motor details: Indesco electronic control motor 940N2I 1000Hi!
First post so hope the above is ok to prevent the “model number?” question!
Problem: The motor is bust! Basically, the brushes are badly worn and chipped due to 2 raised connectors on the motor (please forgive lack of correct names – non-techy) ie. 2 of the copper connectors that touch the brushes and feed the windings. The 2 are next to each other and are sufficiently raised for the brushes to visibly move up as they pass over them. This causes a clicking sound as the motor is turned and a nasty burning smell at high rpm that first alerted me to a problem.
I assume that this means the motor is unserviceable and will need to be replaced.
1. Is it possible to obtain a spare motor? Lots of adverts for brushes, but not entire motor.
2. Is it economically vialble?Thank you very much for your time.
Chris

An E-mail to spares@ukwhitegoods.co.uk should get things moving.

Motor is a C00046533, well over £80.00 ex vat and delivery though. 😥

Great! Thanks Jim. I now see it and a link back to a similar question which I hadn’t seen before on this site.
The big questions now are:
1. In your humble opinions, is it worth spending £100 or so to fix a machine that will be, at best, second hand in working order?
2. There are clearly problems with this motor so will I be faced with a similar crisis in months to come?I personally baulk at the idea of dumping an otherwise perfectly good machine and spending another £250 minimum on another big white box, but that is surely the aim of companies who appear to build in these problems.

£250 minimum will get you yet another throw away machine, only now it is usually under three years when this happens, or 18 months like the Indesit ( which is what your machine actually is) I saw last week. £350.00 minimum and you will then be getting into machines that with luck, will last 8 to 10 years or more.

You could try removing the motor and taking it to a rewinder for repair. That would be a lot cheaper than a replacement and would give you a motor that has been refurbished and comes with a guarantee.
Worth thinking about.

And when was the last time you tried to do that.
As someone in the trade I used to have a good working relationship with a local firm who did motor rewinds etc. I think it must be over 15 years or more since I had a motor repaired. The cost of rewinding a ‘one off’ motor is just completely out of the question when you are talking about small washing machine motors.
This very same firm used to buy Hoover armatures from me to sell to people who wanted an armature rewind, the could not justify the cost of unwinding and collecting the data from the old one then rewinding it. It would be a viable proposition if you had say 100 motors to rewind. If you have only one then just forget it, it ain’t going to happen.
PS. I still repair the firms original owners washing machine, his business has long since closed down and he now runs a caravan park.

Hi Jim
Where I work we have ‘one off’ repairs and rewinds made to motors quite often, (a wide selection of motor makes, types and voltages). This work is done by a rewinder in Bedford, (I think).
Some motors may well be too expensive to repair, but in view of the OP’s comments about costs etc, and as it costs nothing to ask, it is worth trying.
Obviously if it is not cost effective then so be it.
Perhaps the guy you speak of is now running a caravan park precisely because he felt he could not do ‘one off’ jobs?
