ParticipantHi all,
we have an Ariston FV242 oven which we inherited when we bought the property back in Feb this year. Earlier this week the oven failed to heat and no matter what knobs I twiddle, it still wont!
The grill is ok and the fan works. Other than that it is a very simple oven with no electronic controls etc..
I’ve removed the oven from the kitchen unit (at least the builders put a plug on it). Any ideas on what I should next ? Is it repairable or would it be easier to buy another cheap oven (we are having a new kitchen fitted next year so I don’t want to be spending huge amounts of cash).
Thanks in anticipation!

Have a read of this:

http://shop.ukwhitegoods.co.uk/advanced … 3e&x=7&y=9Should sort it for you.
Keep that plug where you can see it and not in the socket.

thanks very much for the reply. One thing I didn’t mention was when the oven started playing up, there was a piece of foil obstructing the fan ventilation. Could this have caused the element to overheat ?
I presume the main oven has an element in addition to the grill? If so how do I access it ?
thanks

OK, answered my own question. Inside the oven I’ve undone the 4 screws and removed the plate at the back and now I can see the exposed element.
So I guess it is take this one out, order and spare and hopefully that will cure it !? Anything else that I could/should check/replace at the same time?
Thanks

Definitely – if the air flow to the fan gets restricted, the element will overheat and blow in pretty short order.
As for the rest of it, check fan is nice and free and get rid of any grease deposits whilst you’ve got the access.
Ideally, you should check the resistance of the element (unless it is visibly broken, split or “fizzed”) with a test meter. A reading of 20-40 ohms would be normal.
