ParticipantThis machine was reported to leak out of the front.
I’ve been out to it a few times, now – fortunately it’s only about a mile away!On spin, it rotates quite fast (30 revolutions in total) for 19 seconds before the drain pump starts to drain, so with a wash full of clothes, it pushes water back out of the soap dispenser.
I’ve tried replacing the module with a recon one from EMW, but the exact same symptoms happened with that one, too, so I’ve sort of ruled that out, with a nagging in the back of my mind “what if the replacement had the same issue, unknown to EMW, as it was a recon?”
The filter is clean (there was only a button, a 20p and a 1p coin in it, but they weren’t blocking it).
The drain pump itself is operating correctly – power to it through test leads via RCD onto connections and it kicks into life straight away and pumps the machine out very efficiently and quickly.
There are no brushes to check, as the motor is a 3-phase induction one.
This only started happening about a month and a half ago, according to the owner.
What is causing the 19 second burst of 30 rotations before the drain pump kicks in on spin?
Any ideas gratefully accepted, please.
Thanks,

All the Indesit/Hotpoint/Ariston 3 phase machines ramp up to near distribute speed before the pump kicks in, no idea why, they just do. 😕

Sounds like a blockage somewhere.

Well, assuming Jim is right, and he ought to know, then maybe in a normal state there is somewhere else for pressure to escape, for example a vent somewhere at the top, and that’s got blocked?

Jim is 100{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} correct (as expected), I know these M/c can leak from the draw if the filter gets blocked but that’s already been checked. Does it leak before the pump kicks in ?

Yes it does, with a full load in, but not when testing with no load in and just a regular fill of water.
Is there anything above on this machine that could be blocked? It’s not the detergent inlet, as it’s coming back up from there to go out through the soap drawer.
Thanks for all your posts so far, Gents.

Can’t think if there’s a vent, could it be overfilling on rinses ?

had this on a 6mnth old wdl540 the other week, with the same swing arm drawer. it would also work a1 with no load, but minute there were clothes in htere it displaces the water and raises the water level, that also spun faster than i thought it should when draining
thing was this had the front filter with absolutely zilch in it but dog fur all above the ecoball cup making a near waterproof seal.
dont think the ariston has a front filter, just a sump and rear pump??? which youve said is clear. is it possible something else has since found ts way down now yourve cleared it once already???
and i know its not recomended as a permanent fix but try taking the ball out for a couple of washes and seeing if that cures the issue. then youve got your answer. it might be soap residue is sticking your ball to the top of the cup, if theres no blockage. try a good wash thru of the whole sump-pump hosing

I think gandh1 could be correct on this, I’d take the eco ball out and see what happens 8)

Thanks, chaps, I’ll take up your advice when the customer’s next “off shift” and let you know what happens.
