ParticipantI know most people would be appaled, maybe me too, but my landlord has said to replace our washing machine spending £200. Everything’s rubbish in the normal retailers, I’m hoping to try to get him to go to 250. But for around 200 I seem to be able to get:
Servis – no!
Haier- looks good but definitely no!
Indesit – opinions please
Beko – as above
Whirlpool – as above
Zanussi- as above.
Sorry to ask so many questions. Trying to get an ISE2 for myself as shortly leaving rented accomodarion!January 14, 2008 at 9:04 pm #239656Penguin45

Of that little list, probably the Whirlpool is the one to go for. The Zanussi may be acceptable, but will have a sealed tub, so if the bearings fail it’s a throw away.

Thanks for that, but you’ve added Gorenje into the mix, which I wouldn’t have considered (or heared of!). The WA50140 and WA50120 seem to be available online for about 215 delivered. Would this be a better bet than a Whirlpool?

Decent cheap machine……. You said £200!
Problem is you’ve got 5 or 6 threads started to answer two questions. 😕

No I haven’t, I’m after 2 machines, a 200 pound for my landlord and a 300 pound for myself. Just wondered here if for near enough 200 you’d recommend Whirlpool or Gorenje. Other threads pertain to my machine, whether an ISE2 is any good or if I could get a stainless drum, and the debate about hot fill. Othewise I’ve enquired about repairring an old Philco that’s mine if I can do anything with it. Sorry if you think I’ve started too many threads but I considered them all discrete questions. Thanks for your advice. Regards Tom.

I don’t think there is a trade member of this forum that would actually ‘recommend’ any £200.00 washer, most will just tell you that one is worse than the other but none of them would be recommended. Even £300.00 is only just getting you into average to decent quality.

The Bosch WAE24363 with it`s two year warranty is a good machine which we recommend well worth the extra few pounds.

I wouldn’t get involved – it’s not your problem. You are presumably renting a furnished property where a portion of your rent is on account of there being a washing machine. Get him to do the donkey work buying a new one and if he insists on paying £200 for a machine that is unlikely to see out its warranty without a problem, then that’s his problem.

Just an update, well it came down to a choice of 2, principally on the advice of Penguin45. Either the Whirlpool AW0/D4505 1200rpm, Currys 199.95 or the Gorenje WA50140, online 213.01. In the end I chose the Gorenje on account of the 1400rpm spin and 2 year warranty, I also got it for 185. Looks a simple basic but smart machine, seems to work OK. I know this is very much bargain basement territory but it’s the budget I was given so I’ve done my best- by not getting a Servis/Haier! I think 2 years’ warranty is not to be overlooked, the machine must be at least made of half reasonable stuff. I only do about 4 loads a week in any case. So so far I would recommend Gorenje, though the outer drum does seem to be plastic despite what P45 said!
