spoton
ParticipantHi All,
Can anyone offer advice please: The mains input filter suddenly spewed out smoke then blue the mains fuse of the house. I can easily replace it but I’m wondering if any other component is likely to be damaged – like the power supply circuit on the control board.
Anyone with experience on this please.

Cannot answer your question head on but surely the easy thing to do is to temporarily by pass the offending suppessor to see what works and what doesn`t. Usually you find when suppressors blow up everything else tends to be ok, ya can never be sure though until tried. If by passed and and nothing happens suspect any pbc first.

Many thanks totalshambles for your reply. It did come to mind to bypass the filter but I wasn’t sure if the control board circuit depended on the filter in some way. It’s good advice will try that and report back!

Good news, bypassed the mains filter and the machine works!
New filter cost is over $70 so have taken a can opener to the old one, cut out the spewing capacitor and will replace the two .47uF capacitors. The inductors appear to be fine so it should be business as usual.
Again many thanks for your reply.
P.S. I think the truth lay some where between spoton and totalshambles.

Looking at a picture of the suppressor it is nothing special. You should be able to replace it with a cylindrical suppressor from whatever takes your fancy. Go and compare if that is the route you want to take.

Sorry for the late reply 1totalshambles, much appreciated your input.
Since there was a load of washing to be done the quickest repair was to replace the single 0.47uF capacitor plus two 4.7nF capacitors. And I had these parts already. The two inductors were undamaged.
It’s been working fine since then. -
