ParticipantFitted one of these to a WMA Hotpoint. A day later i get a call back to say it’s not emptying. The pump burnt out and took the PCB with it. When i looked at the windings you can see where it shorted, not happy 👿 . No there was nothing jammed in the pump.

I had one do exactly the same last week. The module was burnt to a frazzle. I put it down to a one off but is there a trend starting……

we have had the same thing happen on zanussi w/m`s
I have noticed that some askol pump have a toc on the windings, maybe if we tried to only use askol pumps with toc`s this would prevent the problem?
does anyone know if all askol pumps are available with or without toc`s??david

The one that caused this had a TOC. The windings look liked they bubbled up and obviously cause a short and melted one of those very tiny components on the board which an ordinary soldering iron won’t be suitable.

The standard fitting (i.e rear spade terminals) askoll pump from Qualtex that includes a built-in TOC is: PMP243 😀
More than twice the price than the bog standard askoll but half the hastle. 😉

That’ll be the pump switching triac that’s overloaded due to too much current flow demand from the duff pump. 😥

Yeah there was a piece gone out of it where it must have let a shot! Also a very tiny component( resistor or capacitor of some sort) had melted.

Strange this topic came up as I was going to ask the same question.
Had 6 or 7 Askolls do this recently. There is a newer style coming through from Homespare now. I wonder if this is due to a problem?
The only link I can see is the ones that have burnt out have been generally fitted to washer/dryers. Last week I swapped to fitting plaset pumps instead of Askoll.

i had a run on askoll pumps from connect pmp977…. 😡 last year, about 10 went on me again in g/tee all where running to hot on the field windings…. and got stuck or became very noisy.
so i stopped using them and get the zanussi (dst1240180065) askoll pumps instead so far no recalls on theses, 😀canufixit

I have a couple of burnt out pumps recently on zanussi washers and a washer dryers. 😯
Just changed them for pattern ones and they have failed within a matter of months; have always fitted pattern askol with no problems until now.
Customer reported a squeeling noise when draining before they pack up :rolls:So thought I would order the genuine ones, only to find they are not coming with TOCs. DST1326630207
They also appear to be exactly the same as the pattern ones anyway. 😕
I thought that if they run longer they had different wattage rating is this not the case now.
It does not seem to be just washer dryer that are affected I have had burnt out ones on washers as well ?
Have checked for blockages and restrictions all ok in both cases?
Are they being manufactured in china?
The design of the pump has changed it looks cheaper plastic, is this not coping with the heat and causing the pump to jam?Steven

Just fit the Qualtex Askoll pump Steven (PMP243) and you won’t have any probs.
