What margin {e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} wise were you adding onto the cost price John? it also depends on where you source the stock from to. We deal direct with most of our suppliers now and the margin we make is better than sourcing through a distributor, bearing in mind that distributors prices do vary as do the deals on virtually a daily basis .
How much were you charging for the installation? We charge £15.00 delivery only and £25.00 for delivery and installation.

A small repair business selling appliances ‘on the side’ (usually a one-off unit each time) would be very lucky to make above 20 {e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} 🙁
So in your case John at 21{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} you are quids in….NICE ONE

I try and make a clear £100 on each appliance I sell but this does include delivery, installation and disposal of old appliance and packaging .
That covers my margin on the machine, and the cost of my waste transfer licence ,and the admin ,also If I have called to see there old machine there callout is refunded or not charged if they order there and then.
I carry a machine on the van all the time ( this will be an ISE in the near future ) The likes of argos etc offer delivery within 10 days and you must have your old appliance disconnected and the services must be within a metre for them to install .
Most people when confronted with a dead washer want it there and then in my experience .

Lawrence, can you beat the big stores with the mark up you have and install charges etc.?

I have learnt that the way to beat the big stores is offer what they can’t i.e on the spot delivery ,disconnection of old machine ,my smiling face ( I’m not joking, have you ever had anything delivered by an agency driver who doesn’t care ) demonstration of new machine.
the margin suits me and I haven’t had aknock back yet

Off topic but went to cust today to install bosch integrated dishwasher bought off internet. Base was cracked down the middle and cardboard around module soaking wet. Now has to wait for engineer to come out and confirm fault then uplift and deliver replacement. if only I had sold it they would have been willing to pay 😀 .

That’s us too! Though profit is more like £80ish 😕
We compare with the shed prices very well, and we can kick their collective monkey-ass’ when it comes to level of service 😀

Thanks for the replies guys, I recon i could get away with £20-£30 more.
Like you say I deliver service with a smile 🙂 as well as some poor quality jokes along the way 🙁 customers always seem pleased with appliances and service, so to charge a little more would not upset them too much i recon.John.
