According to todays Daily Mail the governmental Office for National Statistics has produced a league table to show Britains average wages.

Out of 300 listed Field Service Engineers are ranked at 223 with an average wage of £19,796. Slightly below lorry drivers (ranked 188) at £21,869….. 😯

Statisticians on the other hand are ranked at number 5 earning just a tad over £71 grand (they get all the best jobs eh?) 😆

Typically the stats don’t tell you that the average engineer who works for me needs a working knowledge on over 40 different brands that we see and repair every month, across all skill levels.

As for the average wages, I wish, my three engineers earn more than that and then some and I’m more than happy to pay it, experience counts in my book.

I would love to pay my staff a good deal more, and make the reward commensurate with their skills. That extends to the call logging staff who despite trying to help the customer, gets more abuse daily.

However, in order to do that, I would need a better income from the work providers.

    Just an idle thought!

    “Engineers” :hmm:

Did the Daily Mail use that terminology?
