ParticipantSold this Jan 2010.
This January a new front weight, door seal and front tub due to broken weight.
This month bearings gone and another broken weight(what are they made of?). The bearing seal has been modified but is still loose on the shaft, nothing like say a Hotpoint WM and doesn’t instill confidence.Bearings put in with a WM extractor kit,if that makes sense.
Only other gripe is the pulley bolt is 18mm, strange but I used a 3/4 AF ‘cos I ain’t got 18mm 😥
Hope it lasts as the customer is a miserable c*w and will make a lot of noise in the village I live in.

Had same problems with the front blocks on the ise aw23. Best permanent solution is to drill through and bolt up with stainlees steel.

Do you mean drill through the front pressing and bolt up? My main concern is the composition of the concrete, seems like compressed ash from a power station, so brittle.

Yes. I have done one as a trial a few months ago. This is the second time this m/c has lost its block so I am trying to make sure I do not see it again. Over tighten them and they bounce back with a snapped bolt, under tighten and the block works loose. Its a no win situtation.

What do you use to use to prevent water leaking, rubber washers inside the drum? Would like a more permanent fix to these but I’m never sure what goes first, concrete or bolt? Both seem under-engineered on an otherwise reasonably well thought out machine.

Mike.In this case, would Threadlock not prevent the loosening of the bolts?

Early weights were 5mm too long.
The weights touch, vibration does the rest.
New weights should cure it.
Let’s just say that the people that made the weights and were supposed to rectify it in September 2009 and didn’t aren’t flavour of the month and subject to legal action.

Use debore when fitting. Make sure you drill the correct size so water cannot come past the bolt. All bolts are above the water line and water would have to penetrate 4cms of debored bolt in plastic. Make sure no excess bolt comes past the nut on the inside as there is not much of a gap to the drum. No problems as yet.

i assume this is not an official mod. surely the bolts must be stainless steel otherwise they will rust, these are not easy to get and i am sure amica do not supply them

No it is not an official mod, its just a desperate engineer trying to keep these blocks on. I have got about sixty of these out on rental and have about three machines which have done it twice. The problem has to be solved. Come back to me in two years time and I will tell you if it was a good mod or not. I hope it is but only time will tell. If amaca come up with a mod kit then I will be happy to fit it but mean while it is up to us to keep these blocks on. Hotpoint do not use stainless steel bolts on there wm series spiders, some rust up and some not. I know it it sounds bad drilling through the tub but this seems to me the best way yet. Give me a better way and I will be up for it.

i have screwed weights back on with a few big blobs of silicone adhesive between the tank and weight. a few years ago on a philips whirpool slimstar top loader the weights used to come off on them, i used no nails adhesive and screwed the bracket back on-never fell off again. maybe try this.send a tweet back to tell us.

Like I said above…
The bolts are available as well. I think they’re waiting on stock from Poland (that’s a week late I gather) but they are most certainly available.

Last set of bolts I fitted (about three weeks ago) seemed identical to the originals – still very thin compared to most counterweight bolts. Concrete block did seem a little different though. Apparently GDHA used to uplift these as they couldn’t be bothered with the hassle.June 12, 2011 at 6:48 pm #352591kwatt

The bolts aren’t changed, the weights are. 😉
