In a Utopian land, not so very far away there was a manufacturer of washers and other assorted odds and sods. Nay, there where two of the blighters!
Hotpoint and Hoover
Both did very little, both were about ten years behind in technology and both had their head inserted in their own anuses as they though they were so good and all the rest of us were just peasants. Oh how times and fortunes change, pity they didn’t with the market or we wouldn’t be in half the shit we are now. But never mind eh?
Consider though the successes that they had, limited though they may be….
They had a “dealer network”
They had a huge service network (well Hoover at least till Candy shagged that totally and finally)
Parts were cheap
Any bugger could fix it if it broke
Tech info was so easily available you could buy it at a car boot sale
Spares were everywhere
Now think….
Look what we’ve done. 😉
Okay, so we haven’t hit all those by a long way and, I grant you, we’re actually ahead in the technology stakes (shitloads more if I have my way) and oh dear, we may even have the largest authorised service network in the UK to go with it. And they’ll be the best trained. And they’ll have spares. And they’ll have all the technical backup known to man.
Oh dear, isn’t that a pisser. We’ve just beaten every manufacturer out there using an open-frame system with a closed loop financial package to the independent engineers.
I wonder when the teddies will be ejected from the pram. 😉
